Seattle wins battle of the bullpens, rallies late to beat VFS 5-2




SPL's Tim Wakefield and VFS' Braden Looper were both effective and Vermont took a 2-1 lead into the 8th. Then Seattle scored 2 in each of the final two innings with their pen shutting Vermont down to grab the win.

At Fighting Sioux Field the Seattle Pilots outscored the Vermont Fighting
Sioux 5 to 2.

Seattle had the winning rally in the top of the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
using 2 hits. Miguel Tejada opened up the inning nicely when he doubled.
After an out was recorded, Randy Winn came up and he drew a walk. Ichiro
Suzuki then slapped a one-base hit. Suzuki swiped second base. Aaron Miles
came to the plate and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Troy Glaus
added to the uprising and drew a walk. Mark Teixeira was next to the plate,
but was promptly struck out. Vermont could do no damage in the bottom of the
9th.

The win went to Latroy Hawkins(2-2) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Geoff Geary earned his 2nd save. Hideki Okajima(4-1) was charged with the
loss in relief.
