Daisuke Matsuzaka went the distance at Fighting Sioux Field where the Miami
Surf beat the Vermont Fighting Sioux by the score of 5 to 3.
Vermont was unable to claim the lead after Miami went ahead in the top of the
7th inning plating an isolated run on 3 hits. After an out was recorded,
Derek Jeter stroked a one-base hit. Bobby Abreu stepped up to the plate and
he slapped a base-hit. David Wright then lined a single. Carlos Delgado was
up next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Ryan Braun was the next
batter, but he struck out. Vermont was set down quietly in the bottom of the
9th.
Matsuzaka(5-3), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Aaron
Cook(2-4) ended up with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits
and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
With this win, Miami has a 33-22 record. They have been 7-3 lately. Vermont
has a record of 30-20 after the loss.
