'Kill tops Vermont 9-8 in game featuring 41 baserunners

The Georgia Roadkill built, lost and eventually held onto many leads in this tight game.

Vermont's first base coach, Wendell Kim, Jr., is facing intense scrutiny as the game ended with DH Cliff Floyd getting thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

Georgia's margin of victory would've been greater if not getting 2 runners thrown out at home, 1 thrown out at second and 1 at third. All in all, not a good day for base coaches.

Vladimir Guerrero lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI as the
Georgia Roadkill beat the Vermont Fighting Sioux by a score of 9 to
8.

Georgia brought 4 runs across the plate in the 3rd inning when they had 3 base
hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Guerrero who helped quiet the
crowd when he clubbed a three-run home run (his 11th of the season). Vermont
had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Brad Penny(1-0) went 5 innings allowing 5 runs for the victory. Matt Lindstrom
got the save, his 1st. Brett Myers(7-4) was hit with the loss. He was
touched for 9 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Johnny Miller said after the game. 'Penny did not have command
of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
