David Ortiz had 3 base hits as the red-hot Lake Champlain Cannibals rallied
impressively to win in dramatic style over Honolulu Hawaiians, 8 to 7.
Lake Champlain had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning as
they scored 5 runs on 4 base hits. The big moment was provided by Brian
McCann who made the crowd come alive when he popped a two-run clout over the
fence (his 1st of the season). Honolulu scored in 5 different innings, but
their shaky pitching kept them from victory.
Derrick Turnbow(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. George Sherrill(0-1) took the loss in relief. 'We just wouldn't
give up,' Ortiz said. 'Much of the credit goes to our fans - they were with
us the whole way.'
