Exciting Griz Home Openner Ends in Disappointment

New Jersey Trash Heap blast Griz's bullpen and conquer the Bears in 11. Heapsters Gary Sheffield blasted a Bobby Howry offering into the left center bleachers for the game winning hit and the silent Alex Rodrigez jacked another Howry pitch a couple batters later - closing out the scoring. NJT hit 4 Dingers in all - one each by Brad Hawpe, Howie Kendrick, and the 11th inning heroes Sheffield and ARod.

The game was knotted 5-5 after 9. Kendrick hit his fence-buster in the 10th to put the Heap ahead 6 -5 but the Bears responded with a run. Then the Shefield/Rodriguez show ended the battle.

The battle started harmlessly - Scott Baker gave up a run early and then the Griz fans roared their approval as the Bears came out of hibernation for the first time this century. Groundballs were gobbled up by the infield and the only x-rating problem appeared in LF. Cabrera had 3 hits including the Griz's first dinger of the year. The Griz looked like a baseball team and Bear fans have hope for a potential winning season - the first time since joining the league.

Howie Kendrick hitting a homerun! That's almost as rare as him taking a walk!
