Illinois rallied for the victory in support of Joe Blanton's solid 8 1/3 innings. Of real note is that Vermont pitchers failed to register a single strike out. |

In a great finish the Illinois Chow Chows came back in the top of the ninth
and held on to win over the Vermont Fighting Sioux by a score of 3 to 2 at
Fighting Sioux Field.
Illinois won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
using 2 hits. Richie Sexson was the sparkplug when he hit a bases-empty home
run (his 5th of the season). Hanley Ramirez came next and he drew a walk.
Carlos Pena then drew a walk. Carlos Beltran was up next and he grounded
into a double play. Kosuke Fukudome stepped into the box and lashed a
single. Illinois rapped out 7 hits for the night.
Joe Blanton(5-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Joe Nathan earned his 22nd save. Jason Grilli(1-2) took the
loss in relief. He allowed no hits and 1 walk without retiring a batter.
'The only way this one could have been better', said Blanton, 'was if we had
played it at home.'
