Illinois Times --
“FIRE SALE!!!!!” The annual cry for Chows owner/GM Brad Sherlag was shouted from the mountaintops this season and for the second time in three years the Chows will go into the draft with a triumvirate of first round draft picks. You will definitely need a program to recognize the Chows when they take the field in BlockIII. Gone are the Chows most productive hitter (Aubrey Huff), best two right-handed set-up men (Carlos Marmol and Chad Bradford), best Left-Handed reliever (Jesse Carlson) and starting RF (David DeJesus).
All in all the Chows made four deals that break down as follows:
Deal 1 (previously announced): Troy Tulowitzki for LCC’s #1
Deal 2: Carlos Marmol, Jesse Carlson, David DeJesus and ILL’s #5 for DFW’s #1
Deal 3: Aubrey Huff for VFS#2 and VFS#5
Deal 4: (The we still have to field a team deal) send Chad Bradford to PCM for Kevin Kouzmanoff
Coming back to Illinois were also a slew of players: Floyd, Hendrickson, Brocail, Erstad and Eveland.
“There were two guys that really hurt us to trade – Tulo and Marmol. Troy was a cornerstone type player, but as I said the day we made the trade, Hanley has worked hard on his defense and deserves a chance to play everyday. Carlos has done a great job for us and frankly was my favorite player on the team. When I watched us play, it was usually wearing a #49 jersey. I think he will emerge to be one of the top closers in the game, but with Nathan and Cordero we couldn’t pass up a chance to get a first rounder. Looking ahead to the draft there are a lot of exciting players, CF and SP appear to be especially strong. Hopefully this will be a franchise-changing draft and get us up there with the big boys in our division.”
You can accuse the Chows of incompetence, but never inactivity.
