Great pitcher's duel between Matt Cain and Ervin Santana, Cain makes one mistake in a game with no room for any. |

Ervin Santana dominated striking out 10 New York batters at Fighting Sioux
Field as the Vermont Fighting Sioux beat the New York Knights 2 to
1.
Santana(1-0) was simply too much for the New York batters. He allowed just 2
hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Vermont out-hit New York for the game, 5 hits
to 2.
J.C. Romero earned his 1st save. Matt Cain(0-1) took the loss. He gave up 5
hits and 5 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. When asked about his strikeout total
for the game, Santana offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to
see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately,
I kept them busy tonight - of course, it would be all for naught without the
'W'.'
