Jim Thome carries Vermont over Pocono

Jim Thome's 2 HRs and 5 RBIs were the difference in Vermont's 9-4 win against PCM. Thome entered the game as a PH for starting DH Carlos Quentin (no slouch of his own, was 2-2 with HR and double vs. pulled starter Correia) in the 5th and blasted a grand slam. 2 innings later he added a solo shot. The win was also the first of the career for Sioux rookie starter and 1st round pick JA Happ. Happ survived a rough 4-run 3rd inning (which included a 3R bomb by DH Delmon Young) and put up zeroes the rest of the way.

Jim Thome smashed 2 homeruns and J.A. Happ pitched a complete game as the
Vermont Fighting Sioux beat the Pocono Chin Music by a score of 9 to 4.
 
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Thome.  He emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 5th
inning and blasted a solo shot in the 8th inning.  Vermont totaled 10 hits on
the afternoon.  
 
Happ(1-0) allowed 4 runs on the game. Kevin Correia(0-1) suffered the loss.
He gave up 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
