Chris Carpenter had a strong outing and shortstop Hanley Ramirez had 2 base
hits as the Illinois Chow Chows topped the Pocono Chin Music by a score of 2
to 0 at Thunderdome.

Illinois came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 2
runs using 3 hits. Chone Figgins kicked off the action when he laced a
base-knock. Two outs later Figgins got a great jump and stole second easily.
Ramirez then slapped a base-hit. Carlos Pena was up next and he doubled.
Luke Gregerson then was wild with a pitch. Angel Pagan was next to the
plate, but was promptly struck out. Illinois had 5 hits for the night while
Pocono had 2.

The victory went to Carpenter(1-0) who went 8 innings, allowing no runs. Joe
Nathan recorded the save, his 1st. Bronson Arroyo(0-1) ended up with the
