Grundy County Enjoying The Heat

The Grundy County Griz are off to their hottest start ever. The Grizzlies are tearing their Opponents apart and eating them up like a skinny japanese kid at Nathan's July 4th International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. The Griz have a heavy home schedule in the first two blocks and have won 37 of 53 games for a near .700 winning percentage. Their overall record on the home version is 49 - 21 which is an awesome 70% win factor. This does not include Block 2 road results.

Team Pitching is Top Notch. Individual achievements include David Price and Brian Matusz, 2 Griz southpaws, loweringd their ERA under 2.00, to 1.75 and 1.91, respectively. Matusz is 7-0 in 9 starts, Price sits at 8-2 recording a win or a lost in all 10 starts, Ricky Romero is 8-4 in 18 starts and leads the staff with 105 innings pitched. Trevor Cahill is 4-1 after 8 starts with a 2.91 ERA. Matt Garza is 7-3 in 20 games including 12 starts and is second on the staff with 86 innings pitched. 2010 NASBL/2009 Americal League Cy Young Award Winner, Zack Greinke appears to be on path for the Mr. Punching Bag Award this season as he has won only 3 of his 11 decisions in 13 starts and 84 innings with his ERA topping out at 5.49. This will probably prevent him from repeating as one of the NASBL's TOP Pitchers. Brian Wilson has collected 19 Saves and leads the good Griz Pen with an awesome 0.31 ERA. He has given up only one earned run (a homerun) in 29 IP and has a WHIP under 0.50. Only one Penner has a stinky ERA - Brian Badebhop gave up a 3 run dinger to push his ERA up to 5.95. Overall team ERA is 3.39.

The Griz bats have not been to bad in a park loaded with Zeroes. (ballpark HR = 0). Team BAVG - 2.58 and the Griz have their first ever HR advantage over opponents Jacking 60 balls into the stands as compared to the opponents 53. Holliday (.310) and Carlos Ruiz (.335) are the only regulars with .300 plus batting averages. Griz base stealers had a great first block, but opposing pitchers held them a lot tighter in Block 2. New Griz Cult Hero Drew Stubbs leads the speedsters with 23 steals. Twelve Griz Thieves have swiped a total of 60 bags.

Griz defense has been pretty sound with Edwin Encarcion being the only regular with a lead glove and 7 errors at 3B.

Griz management thought this team was special and had hoped to shatter all Griz single season records and the Griz are pretty happy with their results. We dared dream of our first 100 win season and that still reamins a possibility having claimed 49 wins in 70 games. Stay tuned for road results and lets see if the Griz eyes will still be gleaming in October.

Sounds like a fun year!! When Greinke is your weak link you have a pretty good club.
