Third baseman Mike Lowell had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Todd Wellemeyer
carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Seattle Pilots beat the Outlaw
Josey Wales by a score of 7 to 5.
Wellemeyer(1-0) was in control of the game from the outset. He didn't allow
much, just 1 hit and no walks in 6 innings. The right-handed Wellemeyer lost
his no-hit bid when Rod Barajas homered with two outs in the 6th inning.
Grant Balfour pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 1st save.
Greg Smith(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He was unable to control the Seattle
offense and allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.
