The Vermont Fighting Sioux pitching staff gave the fans an evening that
they'll never forget by tossing a combined no-hitter! The tension started to
build around the 6th inning.  By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified.
Vermont had only 6 hits for the game.  
 
The victory went to Jack Flaherty(12-13) who went 8 innings, allowing no runs.
Oliver Drake recorded his 1st save.  The loss was charged to Pablo
Lopez(10-7).  
 
'You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than this
happening,' said Flaherty who got credit for the win, 'I don't expect it to
sink in for awhile.' he said. 'You know, it's hard to say who was better, the
starter or the bullpen!'

The Vermont Fighting Sioux edged the Grundy County Grizzlies at Fighting Sioux
Field by the score of 4 to 3.
 
Vermont came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring
3 runs on 2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Carlos Correa began the rally
when he was hit by a pitch.  Whit Merrifield followed next and he drew a
walk.  Ji-Man Choi got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.  Max
Kepler followed and he doubled driving in two more baserunners.  Miguel
Cabrera stepped into the box and singled scoring the final run of the inning.
Kirby Yates was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 5th save.
 
Patrick Corbin(3-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Luis Perdomo(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He
surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk in 2/3 of an inning.

One run was the difference at Fighting Sioux Field as the Grundy County
Grizzlies defeated the Vermont Fighting Sioux 3 to 2.
 
Grundy County took the lead for keeps in the top of the 7th inning scoring a
single run using 3 hits.  After two were out Ozzie Albies smacked a single.
James McCann stepped up next and he doubled scoring the run.  Vermont tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  
 
Marco Gonzales(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings.
Taylor Rogers gained credit for his 2nd save.  Jack Flaherty(3-1) took the
loss.  Despite the loss, he struckout 10 Grundy County batters in 6 and 2/3
innings.  
 
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Justin Rabidoux said. 'We did
what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'

Grundy County promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating one
baserunner on 2 base hits.  Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th

Justin Smoak ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Mike Foltynewicz racked up an
impressive total of 11 strikeouts as the Grundy County Grizzlies defeated the
Vermont Fighting Sioux by a score of 9 to 4 at Fighting Sioux Field.
 
Smoak was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at
their team's expense.  He cracked a solo homerun in the 2nd inning, bombed a
two-run dinger in the 5th inning and doubled in the 9th inning.  Grundy
County had 16 hits for the night while Vermont had 6.  
 
Foltynewicz(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Robbie
Erlin(1-1) was hit with the loss.  By giving up 5 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings
his ERA increased from 3.09 to 4.23.  
 
Foltynewicz didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up.  When told
he had 11 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many.  Say, that's pretty
good, isn't it?'

Hernandez(3-1) dominated Grundy County hitters.  He didn't give up much, just
1 hit and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 2.45.  The right-handed
Hernandez lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jonathan Villar doubled with
nobody out in the 8th inning.  Vermont totaled 15 hits on the night.  
 
Jerad Eickhoff(0-1) absorbed the loss.  He pitched 5 innings allowing 9 hits
and 1 walk. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Eickhoff
was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to
be in for a long night.  Hernandez brought his 'A' game with him - he had
good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly.  He probably only made one or

Grundy County Grizzlies beat the Vermont Fighting Sioux by the count of 5 to
4.
 
Kuhl(1-0) gave Grundy County a solid outing.  He went 8 innings and surrended
up 6 hits and 2 walks.  Vermont threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.  
 
Kuhl got help from Matt Bowman who was credited with his 1st save. The loss
was charged to Brad Peacock(2-3).  He surrended 3 homeruns in his 9 innings.
 
'He was really impressive tonight,' Peacock said of his counterpart.  'Our
guys were just swinging at air.'

Chase Anderson pitched a 2 hitter at Fighting Sioux Field as the Vermont
Fighting Sioux pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Grundy County
Grizzlies by the count of 2 to 1.
 
Vermont had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 base
hits.  Adam Jones led off and keyed the rally when he doubled.  After an out
was recorded, Chris Taylor stepped in and he stroked a single which scored a
run.  Taylor took second on the throw.  Logan Forsythe then ripped a base-hit
resulting in an exciting win for Vermont and a raucous post-game celebration
by the home town fans.  Vermont totaled 8 hits on the night.  
 
The win went to Anderson(4-0) who allowed 1 run in the game. Rick
Porcello(0-1) was tagged with the loss.  Justin Rabidoux was ebullient after
the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that.  Our guys just
weren't going to be denied.  And did you see the fans - they were going wild!
Yes sir, a very enjoyable win

Patrick Corbin(1-0) finally bested his Grundy County opposite, Jose

Vermont scored 2 runs in the 6th inning when they had 3 base hits.  They would
be enough to earn the win.  Emilio Pagan was perfect in relief and got the
save, his 1st.  
 
The loss was charged to Urena.  He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 5 hits

One run was the difference at Fighting Sioux Field as the Vermont Fighting
Sioux registered 4 runs in the 2nd inning and defeated the Grundy County
Grizzlies 4 to 3.

Vermont plated all the runs they needed in the 2nd inning when they scored 4
runs on 3 hits.  That was all Felix Hernandez(4-0) needed.  Vermont took care
of Grundy County with no trouble in the 9th.  

Kevin Siegrist earned his 1st save.  Martin Perez(0-1) was given the loss.  He

David Price whiffed 10 batters and Paul Goldschmidt had 4 hits and 4 RBI as
the Grundy County Grizzlies defeated the Vermont Fighting Sioux 7 to 5 at
Fighting Sioux Field.

Goldschmidt enjoyed a fine evening at the plate.  He clubbed a solo home run
in the 1st inning, lined a one-base hit knocking in a run in the 3rd inning,
ripped a base-hit in the 5th inning and slapped a base-hit bringing home two
baserunners in the 8th inning.  Vermont made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.  

Price(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Kenley
Jansen was credited with his 1st save.  Matt Moore(0-2) took the loss.  He
pitched 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 10 hits and 1 walk.

'He was really impressive tonight,' Moore said of his counterpart.  'Our guys
were just swinging at air.'
