First baseman Hunter Dozier launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Justin
Verlander struck out 10 batters as the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs bested the
Vermont Fighting Sioux 8 to 4 at Fighting Sioux Field.
Dozier provided much of the offense. He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd
inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 3rd inning, laced a
one-base hit in the 5th inning and hit a single in the 9th inning. Vermont
was out-hit by Lehigh Valley, 16 hits to 6.
The win went to Verlander(2-0) who allowed 4 runs in 8 innings. Brett
Anderson(1-3) was given the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits
and 3 walks in 7 innings.
'I had my good stuff today.' Verlander said. 'As the game went along I started
to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

Correa had a big evening at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in
the 1st inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 5th inning
and ripped a single in the 8th inning. Vermont totaled 10 hits on the night.
Andrew Cashner(2-0) allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Chris Sale(1-2) suffered the loss. He was knocked around pretty
good, giving up 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Panik had a big day with his bat. He depressed the partisan hometown fans
with a grand slam home run in the 1st inning and stroked a single scoring two
baserunners in the 5th inning. Lehigh Valley ended up with 17 hits for the
game while Vermont had 7.
Wood(1-0) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. The left-handed
Wood lost his no-hit bid when Eduardo Escobar singled with one out in the 6th

Mike Minor quieted any hopes that Lehigh Valley may have had of a comeback as
the Vermont Fighting Sioux defeated the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 8 to 7 at
Fighting Sioux Field.
Lehigh Valley never recovered after Vermont took the lead in the bottom of the
7th inning plating an isolated run using 2 hits. Emilio Pagan(1-0) got help
from Minor who pitched great and earned his 1st save.
Adam Warren(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings
allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.

Kendrys Morales smashed 2 homeruns as the Vermont Fighting Sioux defeated the
Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs by the score of 5 to 2 at Fighting Sioux
Field.
Morales made sure the Vermont fans enjoyed themselves. He doubled in the 4th
inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 6th inning and hit a
bases-empty home run in the 8th inning. Both teams ended up with 7 hits on
the afternoon.
R.A. Dickey(2-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Dickey got relief help from Brad Ziegler who gained credit
for his 9th save. Gio Gonzalez(2-5) ended up with the loss. He allowed 3
homeruns in 8 innings of work.

Vince Velasquez whiffed 13 batters and Francisco Lindor had 4 hits and scored
3 times at Fighting Sioux Field where the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs beat the
Vermont Fighting Sioux in 11 innings 5 to 2.
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Lehigh Valley was
victorious in the 11th inning. Joe Panik got things going when he drew a
walk. Carlos Perez was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jacoby
Ellsbury then reached on an error. Lindor followed next and he delivered a
one-base hit driving in a run. Lindor took second on the throw. Carlos
Gonzalez stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the bases.
Evan Longoria extended the rally and delivered a base-hit which was good for
two more runs. Lehigh Valley had a total of 13 hits for the game.
Velasquez(1-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 10 innings. Velasquez was
helped out by Patrick Corbin who recorded his 1st save. Matt Wisler(0-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.
'I had my good stuff tonight.' Velasquez said. 'As the game went along I
started to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of
hitters.'

Dillon Gee retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Vermont Fighting Sioux
defeated the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs by the score of 6 to 2 at Fighting Sioux
Field.
Gee(3-1) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't allow much, just 9
hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Lehigh Valley had 9 hits in the game while
Vermont had 6, but Vermont had the more timely hits.
The losing pitcher was Stephen Strasburg(2-1). He struck out 12 batters in 7
and 1/3 innings despite losing the game. Kevin Burns was upset after the
game. 'I don't like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?',
he said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's
printed in the rule book.'
